John Smith

John attended university in Liverpool and spent the first decade of his career working in Investment Banking for companies such as Charles Schwab, Barclays and a joint venture between Merrill Lynch and HSBC. John then returned to the University of Birmingham to gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and began working as a Teacher of Geography at Hall Green Secondary School in Birmingham. Whilst doing this he worked in various leadership roles whilst gaining his Master’s Degree (MEd) from the University of Birmingham.

In 2010 John and his family moved to Qatar to Doha British School where he served as Head of Secondary School for just under 4 years before moving to his next headship at Dover Court International School, a British curriculum school in Singapore in 2015. He was awarded the U.K. National Qualification in Headship (NPQH) in January 2016. John joined Park House English School as Principal in August 2017.

Outside of school John is an avid reader when time allows, enjoys travelling with his family to experience different cultures and cuisines and indulges his passion for Rugby Union by following Birmingham Moseley and Wasps.

Brian Allen

Head Of Primary

Brian Allen

Head Of Primary

Mr. Brian Allen arrived at Park House in 2016 with almost thirty years of teaching experience behind him. Born and educated in Belfast, Northern Ireland he graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Physics. His initial training took place at Moray House, Edinburgh before embarking upon a short lived career as a physics teacher in Scotland and Cairo. He met his wife, Jill, in Egypt who persuaded him that his forte was in primary education, whereupon he retrained at Jordanhill College, Glasgow.

He is, therefore, in that rare category of teacher of having been trained in both primary and secondary education. Subsequent posts in Scotland, Oman, England, Venezuela, Poland, the Cayman Islands and latterly China mean that Mr Allen has had experiences of a number of educational environments and situations. Interests outside school lie mainly within his family although he does enjoy travelling, watching sport, trying to keep fit and is passionate about Irish rugby. Married to Jill, he has two sons, Tomas who works for Deloitte in Boston and Fergus who is studying Film Production in Vancouver.

Graham Braben

Head of Secondary

Graham Braben

Head of Secondary

Qualifications-BA (Hons) Social Sciences, University of Liverpool, PGCE Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham

Graham began teaching in 1981 in the Further Education sector in the United Kingdom. From 1982 until 1998 he was a Lecturer in English, Sociology, Communications and was Head of Media and English at one of the largest FE Colleges in the country.
In 1988, along with his wife Helen, he decided to teach abroad and worked initially at the British School of Kuwait, which unsurprisingly is in Kuwait. He stayed in Kuwait until 2001 when he moved to Wesgreen International School, Sharjah. Graham was at the school for five and a half years, first as Head of English, then Head of the Secondary School and finally Assistant Headmaster.
In 2006 Graham moved to New Zealand where he worked for one of the top independent schools in the country teaching CIE IGCSE and A levels, however having adapted quite nicely to the warm climate and way of life here, the family moved back to the Gulf.
In January 2007 he began a long and happy time at Park House English School, first as a temporary English teacher, then Head of English and since August 2008, as Head of the Secondary School. Graham has seen both the size and the reputation of the school grow and is immensely proud of the ethos and work ethic that have been developed at the school.
In his spare time Graham is a huge music fan, with an embarrassingly large collection of vinyl records, an even bigger Liverpool FC fan and, with his wife Helen and daughter, Alice, enjoys spending as much time as possible at their home in rural Southern Spain.

Lisa Anderson

Deputy Head of Primary

Lisa Anderson

Deputy Head of Primary

Ms. Lisa Anderson left her beautiful town of Oban when she was 18 years old and realised the city of Glasgow was equally as stunning. She graduated from the University of the West of Scotland with a degree in International Marketing and quickly secured a graduate position within an established agency. Ms. Anderson soon realised this field did not allow her to help and support others in the way she knew she could.  She then volunteered in schools before completing her PGCE at Jordanhill College in 2003.

Over 10 wonderful years, Ms Anderson worked her way up from probationer teacher to Acting Deputy Head of Primary, in the east end of Glasgow. Ready for a challenge professionally and personally, she moved to Doha in 2013.  After 4 years in Year 1, she is now very proud to be Deputy Head of Primary and feels very much a part of the PHES community.

Ms. Anderson has a passion for travel and music and tries to combine the two whenever possible.
