Early Years

The Early Years Department is housed in a separate block, which is bright and airy. There are two Early Years 1 classes and three Early Years 2 classes, all staffed by qualified and experienced teachers and experienced assistants.

The classroom environment encourages children to use initiative, be independent, respectful and creative.

There are 7 areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development.
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Early Years 1

Early Years 1 seeks to provide a structured, balanced, interesting and stimulating environment in which young children may learn through their own experience, guided by sympathetic and caring adults.

All the “ground work” necessary to prepare the child for entry to the Early Years 2 class will be covered.

A number of units from the International Primary Curriculum are covered in Early Years 1. P.E, Library and Music are also part of the curriculum.

Early Years 2

Children are introduced to the English National Curriculum subjects including Literacy and Numeracy. Knowledge and Understanding of the World is taught by using various topics from the International Primary Curriculum. In Early Years 2 all children start to learn to read and to swim. P.E., Library, Music and Arabic are also part of the curriculum. There is still plenty of time for structured play and free play.
