From 16 to 19 November 2023, the Park House English School Under 19 sports teams travelled to Kuwait to take part in the 2023 – 2024 British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) Games, which were co-hosted by The English Academy and The British School of Kuwait. Under the guidance of Mrs Pamela Thiesen, the Head of Physical Education in our Secondary School, the teams displayed exceptional sportsmanship and skill, creating a memorable experience for all involved.
As the only Qatar school represented at the competition, we are incredibly proud that Park House secured an impressive fifth place overall out of the 14 British schools from across the Middle East that participated.
The third-place achievement of our Boys’ Football Team was particularly noteworthy as it included a thrilling quarter-final match that culminated in a penalty shootout. Goalkeeper Bishara’s crucial save towards the end of the shootout secured the team’s place in the semi-finals, and he and teammate, Kais, were recognised as the Most Valuable Players for their outstanding contributions.
Our Girls’ Football Team achieved a commendable sixth place. Their triumph over the group leaders, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, in a penalty shoot-out during the play-off matches left them in high spirits. Poppy PW was honoured as the Most Valuable Player for her exceptional performance.
In volleyball, the boys secured an eighth-place finish, displaying remarkable prowess in the group stage, despite an unlucky match with the eventual champions in the quarterfinals. Afonso NDS and Afonso G stood out as the Most Valuable Players for their stellar contributions.
The girls’ netball team exhibited tenacity and skill and finished in 10th place. With numerous victories and closely contested games, they were just one goal away from reaching the quarterfinals. An outstanding performance from Ripley M earned her the title of Most Valuable Player.
Park House’s representation at the BSME Games in Kuwait was a resounding success. The students not only showcased their athletic abilities but also fostered friendships and camaraderie, making the school proud on the international stage. Congratulations to all the participants for their dedication, perseverance, and achievements!
