John Smith
Principal
John attended university in Liverpool and spent the first decade of his career working in Investment Banking for companies such as Charles Schwab, Barclays and a joint venture between Merrill Lynch and HSBC. John then returned to the University of Birmingham to gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and began working as a Teacher of Geography at Hall Green Secondary School in Birmingham. Whilst doing this he worked in various leadership roles as he simultaneously gained his Master’s Degree (MEd) from the University of Birmingham.
In 2010, John and his family moved to Qatar to a prominent British School where he served as Head of Secondary School for just under 4 years before moving to his next headship at Dover Court International School, a British curriculum school in Singapore, in 2015. He was awarded the U.K. National Professional Qualification in Headship (NPQH) in January 2016 and National Professional Qualification in Executive Leadership (NPQEL) in January 2022. John joined Park House English School as Principal in August 2017 and also serves as the elected Honorary Treasurer for the British Schools In the Middle East (BSME) Executive Committee In addition to leading Park House, John also acts as a Team Chair for the Council of International Schools (CIS), leading evaluation teams in various schools around Europe and the Middle East. He is also a lead facilitator for UK National Professional Qualifications (NPQLT, NPQSL and NPQH).
Outside of school John is an avid reader when time allows, enjoys travelling with his family to experience different cultures and cuisines and indulges his passion for Rugby Union by following Birmingham Moseley and Wasps.
